Family Centered Programs collaborates with community leaders, organizations, and agencies to strengthen families thereby impacting student success.  FCP was integral to the development of three local efforts, which are related to state-wide and national efforts to promote student success.

Excel By 5 is a team of educators, community leaders, and parents working together to help make Oktibbeha County an even more nurturing, safer environment for young children.  Excel By 5 focuses on the following areas: 

  • Community Involvement 
  • Family and Parent Support 
  • Early Care and Education

STARKVILLE OKTIBBEHA GRADE-LEVEL READING COMMUNITIES NETWORK

The Starkville Oktibbeha Grade-Level Reading Communities Networkwas formed in 2018 in collaboration of the Mississippi Grade-Level Reading Communities Campaign and recognized by the national campaign to organize a local community effort to promote students are reading on grade level by 3rdgrade.   Over 20 individuals representing families; schools; and community leaders, organizations, and agencies make up the network.  A strategic plan has been developed to address three major factors research has found to have an impact on student reading school readiness, school attendance, and summer learning. Network goals are to:

  • Increase school readiness
  • Reduce chronic absenteeism 
  • Increase summer learning opportunities

DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES COALITION

The Drug-Free Communities Coalition involves various segments of the community in an effort to identify and address local youth substance use problems.  Coalition goals are to:

  • Limit access to substances
  • Change the culture and context within which decision about substance use are made
  • Shift the consequences associated with youth substance use
