The Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District Board of Trustees named Morgan Abraham principal of Sudduth Elementary School and Cynthia Milons Principal of Overstreet Elementary School during a special call meeting on Thursday.

Abraham is currently an assistant principal in the Tupelo Public School District.  Abraham, who began her career in education in 2008, shared her classroom with kindergarten and third grade students for nine years before becoming an instructional coach and then assistant principal.

“Abraham shares a passion for teaching and leading with experience in best instructional practices, early literacy, technology and arts integration, and effective use of data to set high learning goals,” said SOCSD Supt. Eddie Peasant.  “Abraham also brings extensive training and knowledge of professional learning communities as a teacher and administrator to our school district.”

Abraham holds a Specialist of Education in educational supervision and leadership from Delta State University, a Master of Science in elementary education from Alcorn State University and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Mississippi State University.

Morgan follows longtime Sudduth Elementary Principal Elizabeth Mosley who is retiring in May after 30 plus years as an educator.

Milons has served as interim principal of OES since summer 2018.  A 14-year teaching veteran, Milons joined the Starkville Oktibbeha School District in 2009 as an English teacher at Starkville High School.  She was instrumental in the high school’s participation in Teach to Lead, a partnership of the U.S. Department of Education and ASCD which values teachers as experts in instruction.

“Milons has proven herself as a school level leader with a knowledge and understanding of innovative, engaging classroom instruction, student-centered learning environments, and positive school culture,” said Peasant.  “She is committed to building strong relationships that foster and support our students and teachers to help them achieve their personal growth goals.”

Milons earned her Specialist of Education in leadership and her Master of Education in secondary education from Mississippi State University.  She also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State University.  Milons completed the Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality Teachers Training Institute in 2005.

Abraham and Milons assume their positions July 1.
