Starkville High School’s 2018 STAR Students are Sean Mackin and Pepito Thelly. Sean and Pepito earned scores of 35 on the ACT. Sean selected SHS math and physics teacher Vijay Parchane as his STAR Teacher while Pepito selected SHS English teacher Anita Johnson as his STAR Teacher, recognizing them as the teachers who most impacted their high school careers.
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program recognizes high school seniors in Mississippi who earn the highest ACT score in their school. The STAR student then selects his/her STAR teacher.
Sean and Pepito, along Mr. Parchane and Mrs. Johnson, will be honored during a luncheon hosted by the Mississippi Economic Council and the M.B. Swayze Foundation recognizing all of the STAR Students and STAR Teachers in the state in April.
