JACKET THRIVE ENRICHMENT CAMPS

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District is excited to offer an excellent selection of enrichment learning opportunities during our 2024 Jacket Thrive Summer Intersession scheduled for June 3-21. Please browse the offerings below for grade level, dates, description, location and length of each camp.

Registration for summer 2024 Jacket Thrive Enrichment Camps will open on Wednesday, May 8 at 8 am.

To register, visit this page and click the registration link below your chosen camp. Online registration will open on Wednesday, May 8 at 8 am. You may also register your student in person at Greensboro Center on Wednesday, May 8 between 8 am and 1 pm. Enrollment is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Fees: Camp fees are indicated with each camp listed below. Fees are used to purchase consumable materials for students to use during camp.  Fee waivers are available based on student school lunch applications. 

Parent drop-off and parent pick-up is requested for enrichment learning opportunities.

Please only register your child for ONE enrichment experience per week.

SPARK Art Camp (K-5)

ABOUT: Students in this camp will join the Starkville tradition of excellence in the visual and performing arts with the opportunity to express themselves through singing, dancing, piano, theatre, and visual art. On the last day of this camp, parents will be invited to view a student performance and walk through an art gallery full of student originals.

Camp will be divided into K-2 and 3-5 age groups

Ready, Set, Cook! (Grades K-2) 

ABOUT:  Do you have a budding junior chef that loves to help in the kitchen? If so, this camp is for you! Students will learn how to prepare multiple meals while also practicing measurment skills, communication, and teamwork.

Wild About Ecosystems (Grades K-2) 

ABOUT: In this camp, your student will learn about the biodiversity of different ecosystems including deserts, grasslands, rainforests, and water ecosystems. We will investigate how energy flows through ecosystems, and the role that water, weather, and climate play in making habitats diverse.

Farm to Fork Poultry Camp (Grades 3-5) 

ABOUT: Have you ever wondered how the eggs and checken nuggets get tot he store or how a chick grows and gets out of that egg? Through this 4-day camp, kids will be given the opportunity to explore the world of poultry from the farm to the plate, including a trip tot he MSU Poultry Farm.

Targeting Excellence: Jacket Archery Camp (Grades 4-11)

ABOUT: Learn the basics of competitive archery with our Jacket Archery coaches. Students will be divided into younger and older groups based on enrollment.

B.R.A.I.N. Camp (Grades 6-12)

ABOUT: Bridging Research and Academics with Innovations in Neuroscience Camp: Do you have a budding scientist on your hands? Is your scientist interested in how the brain works? Let them join us for B.R.A.I.N. Camp as we employ science and engineering practices, learn lab safety, and engage in a mini study of the brain. Camp highlights will include a local field trip to learn about the different types of brain imaging, a visit from an MSU neuroscientist and his team, and a hands on brain dissection.

Going for Gold! Olympic Camp 2024 (Grades K-4) 

ABOUT: Have you ever asked yourself when, where, or why the Olympic Games were started? Do you enjoy friendly competition? Then this intersession camp might just be for you! During Olympics Camp, we will learn about how and why the Olympic games were created. Plus you'll get to participate in some friendly individual and team competitions to win gold, silver, and/or bronze medals.

Camp ACI & MSU High Voltage Lab (Grades 6-8)

ABOUT: Enjoy a hands-on experience in advanced composite engineering, design, build, and manufacturing. See how advanced composites are shaping the aerospace, automotive, and energy industries! Students will travel to the Advanced Composities Institute each day and enjoy a field trip to a local industry on the fourth day. The final day will be spent at MSU's High Voltage Lab.

Camp Chopped (Grades 5-8)

ABOUT: Students will spend time learning about different cuisines and cooking techniques the first half of the day. The second half of the day students will use the skills they have learned to engage in competitive cooking of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. This camp has very limited enrollment and fills quickly.
