JACKET THRIVE ENRICHMENT CAMPS

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District is excited to offer an excellent selection of enrichment learning opportunities during our 2023 Jacket Thrive Spring Intersession scheduled for March 18-22. Please browse the offerings below for grade level, dates, description, location and length of each camp.

Registration for fall Jacket Thrive Enrichment Camps will open on Thursday, February 15 at 8 am.

To register, visit this page and click the registration link below your chosen camp. Online registration will open on Thursday, February 15 at 8 am. You may also register your student in person at Greensboro Center on Thursday, February 15 between 8 am and 1 pm. Enrollment is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Fees: Camp fees are indicated with each camp listed below. Fees are used to purchase consumable materials for students to use during camp.  Fee waivers are available based on student school lunch applications. 

Parent drop-off and parent pick-up is requested for enrichment learning opportunities.

Please only register your child for ONE enrichment experience per week.

Around the World (Grades K-2) 

ABOUT:  Have you ever wondered what it’s like in another country? Well, then this camp is for you. At camp Around the World, you will learn about four different countries, as well as more about where we live. Get first-hand experience learning about the history, art, music, animals, and cultures that surround Peru, Kenya, Japan, and Australia. We will have guest speakers and a wonderful field trip experience to help students tie their learning together. So join us as we travel, Around the World!

ABOUT: Girls are significantly underrepresented in STEM fields like Coding and Robotics. This camp is designed to expose girls to this field. Join our all-girls camp for a chance to learn about how cool coding can be! You don't have to have any prior coding experience before coming to camp. We'll teach you everything you need to know!

Camp Chopped (Grades 5-8)

ABOUT:  THIS CAMP WILL BE FILLED FROM THE FALL WAITLIST PRIOR TO OPENING FOR ENROLLMENT. Students will spend time learning about different cuisines and cooking techniques the first half of the day. The second half of the day students will use the skills they have learned to engage in competitive cooking of an appetizer, entree, and dessert.

ABOUT: Do you enjoy crocheting, or have you ever wanted to learn? This camp will provide practical, hands-on experience in learning the fundamentals of how to crochet as well as an introduction to intermediate and advanced techniques.

Camp ACI & MSU High Voltage Lab (Grades 6-8)

ABOUT: Enjoy a hands-on experience in advanced composite engineering, design, build, and manufacturing. See how advanced composites are shaping the aerospace, automotive, and energy industries! Students will travel to the Advanced Composities Institute each day and enjoy a field trip to a local industry on the fourth day. The final day will be spent at MSU's High Voltage Lab.

Think Outside at The Box (Grades 6-12)

ABOUT: The camp is not just a retreat into nature but a convergence of academic exploration, environmental stewardship, and modern technology. Based at the Larry Box Conservation Center, participants will gain an appreciation for the delicate balance and beauty of nature. But that's not all – our camp is designed to embrace the digital age. In the realm of technology, social media creation takes center stage as students blend their newfound environmental knowledge with digital storytelling. Whether crafting captivating narratives, filming educational videos, or developing impactful campaigns, participants will learn to leverage social media as a tool for advocacy and awareness. Join us at the intersection of nature, knowledge, and technology for an unforgettable camp experience that transcends traditional boundaries and fosters a passion for learning that lasts a lifetime.

MakerSpace Camp (Grades 9-12)

ABOUT: In the Makerspace Camp, students will be using critical thinking skills to design and create using technology. They will learn about designing, poster making, 3D printing, and creative technology. This will also be a part of a service project to help our community and will include a field trip to a local community site.

Tabletop Game Camp  (Grades 9-12)

ABOUT: This role-playing tabletop game camp will focus primarily on completing a beginner-level campaign in games such as Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer. Students will use creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and basic math skills to navigate through the story or conquer the battlefield. Students are encouraged to have a level 1, 2, or 3 character already created if they plan to play DND, but pre-made characters will also be provided. Students who wish to play Warhammer can paint models or play in 1v1 or 2v2 campaigns.
