JACKET THRIVE ENRICHMENT CAMPS

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District is excited to offer an excellent selection of enrichment learning opportunities during our 2023 Jacket Thrive Fall Intersession scheduled for October 2 - 11. Please browse the offerings below for grade level, dates, description, location and length of each camp.

Registration for fall Jacket Thrive Enrichment Camps will open on Thursday, September 7 at 8 am.

To register, visit this page and click the registration link below your chosen camp. Online registration will open on Thursday, September 7 at 8 am. You may also register your student in person at Greensboro Center on Thursday, September 7 between 8 am and 1 pm. Enrollment is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Fees: Camp fees are indicated with each camp listed below. Fees are used to purchase consumable materials for students to use during camp.  Fee waivers are available based on student school lunch applications. 

Parent drop-off and parent pick-up is requested for enrichment learning opportunities.

Please only register your child for ONE enrichment experience per week.

PreK Fall Frenzy (Grade PreK)

ABOUT: Come learn about all the exciting changes that fall brings through activities that are centered around high-quality literature, art, physical development, social-emotional learning, and music. Limited spots available.

Spooky STEAM Camp (Grades K-2) 

ABOUT:  Are you interested in all things spooky (not too spooky) and STEAM related? This is the camp for you! Using science, technology, engineering, art, and math, we will put a twist on literature and Halloween themed characters. From helping a turkey get out of trouble and launching a ghost, to building a nest for a bat in trouble. Come join us for Spooky STEAMing fun! (Field trip to MSU included.)

ABOUT:  Students will spend time learning about different cuisines and cooking techniques for the first half of each day. During the second half of the day students will use the skills they have learned to engage in competitive cooking of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. (Field trip to MSU included.)

Camp ACI (Grades 6-8)

ABOUT: Enjoy a hands-on experience in advanced composite engineering, design, build, and manufacturing. See how advanced composites are shaping the aerospace, automotive, and energy industries! Students will travel to the Advanced Composities Institute each day and enjoy a field trip to a local industry on the fourth day. The final day will be spent at MSU's High Voltage Lab.

ABOUT: Taught by award-winning SHS art instructor, Andrew Lark, students will create strong, original photography while learning national art standards. Learn the true function of the DSLR camera and how to take photos with great composition in manual mode. Mr. Lark provides a wealth of knowledge for students interested in photography.

Heated! An Investigation of Fire, Weather, Ecology and the Future of Humanity  (Grades 8-12)

ABOUT: We will use the IDV 3D weather rendering software to observe historic wildfires that burned out of control to the point of becoming megafires in real time as if it was happening all over again. We will examine the impact that fires have on society and local ecology.

ACT Bootcamp (Grades 9-12)

ABOUT: Learn strategies to help you prepare for the ACT and boost your score from veteran ACT Coach and Mississippi teacher, Montgomery Hinton. Mr. Hinton is an ACT Certified Educator in English, math, reading and science and has gained recognition across the Southeast for helping students gain ACT scores needed to graduate and pursue their chosen path after high school.
