Two SHS Band Students Selected for All State Lions Band

Two SHS Band Students Selected for All State Lions Band

Two SHS band students have been selected for the Mississippi All State Lions Band.

Margaret Ann Sullivan and Holden Hebert will travel to Quebec and Montreal Canada toperform with student musicians and further their study of music.

Margaret Ann, a freshman at Armstrong Jr High School, will play the French horn, and Holden, a sophomore at Starkville High School will play the bass clarinet.

Margaret Ann and Holden have been members of the band since 6th grade in the Starkville Oktibbeha School District.

Holden is first chair for the bass clarinet and Margaret Ann is 5th chair for the French horn.

Being selected as a member of the All State Lions Band is highest honor bestowed on a high school band stuents. 

The Mississippi Lions All-State Band is the state's premier honor band. Each year, over a hundred high school students are selected by audition to participate in a week long camp culminating in a concert.

The entire band also travels to compete in the Parade of Nations at the Lions Club International Convention. To date the Mississippi band has won thirty-four competitions.
