New Play Space Approved for Sudduth Elementary School

Excellence in play! The Starkville Oktibbeha School District's Building for Excellence campaign is expanding beyond the classroom.

At Sudduth Elementary School, Building for Excellence, means transforming the school's outdoor play area into a space that encourages exploration, develops imagination, and allows students to move their bodies.

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District Board of Trustees approved a bid from Pelican Playgrounds LLC of Slidell, Louisiana, in the amount of $289,480 for the new play space.

"Outdoor play is an essential component to a well-rounded educational experience, and we can't wait for our students to enjoy a new, improved play space where they learn and grow together," said Principal Morgan Abraham.

The play area features inclusive play areas, developmentally appropriate surface area and play structures, half-sized basketball court, and picnic tables with covered seating.

The new play area is expected to be completed in fall 2022.
