Armstrong Middle School and Starkville High School hauled in an American Visions honor and six gold keys to add to the District’s arts awards collection in the 2019 Mississippi Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

AMS eighth grader Emily Jarrell was awarded the judges’ highest marks for her drawing and illustration, Me, Myself and I, which earned her an American Visions nomination.

Jarrell was also awarded a gold key for her work, and SHS artist Jada Lark was awarded two gold keys for her photography.  Jessica Jenkins and Mandy Sun, AMS, along with Carolyn Doan, SHS, also collected one gold key each.

The students’ original works, selected from more than 2,000 entries recognizing outstanding achievement in the arts.  View the art gallery online at https://msmuseumart.org/index.php/exhibitions/exhibition/2019-scholastic-art-awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards continues to be the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S. celebrating the vision, ingenuity, and talent of young artists. Student submissions are blindly judged by leaders in the visual arts. Jurors look for works that exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal voice or vision. All Gold Key winners advance to compete at the national competition.

The Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarship.
