Building for Excellence at Armstrong Jr High School; Parent Letter from Mr. Forbes

Dear Armstrong Jr High School Families,

We're excited to welcome you and your family to a new school year of excellence at Armstrong Jr High School!

As you plan to pick up your child's schedule and school-issued device on July 14 or 15 and join us for Open House on July 25, I want to share some exciting news with you.

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District has begun a capital improvements campaign, Building for Excellence, that centers on establishing dynamic physical learning environments where students want to pursue their passion, define their purpose and achieve their potential.

At Armstrong Jr High School, Building for Excellence means renovating our original building into a space that is comfortable and inviting with new lighting, new ceilings, new paint, new doors and a new HVAC system.  It also means transforming existing classrooms into modernized science labs to support collaboration and encourage exploration, and it means installing a new gym floor that is a replica of the floor at Starkville High School.  Most importantly, it means creating spaces where students want to spend their time learning, including a new production studio along with makerspace and robotic labs in a redesigned 21st century library.

Proposed Building A improvements include:

  • New HVAC system with air filtration
  • New LED lights throughout the building
  • New acoustical ceilings
  • New exterior doors
  • New restrooms with sensor valve fixtures
  • New gym floor
  • New science labs
  • New library design with production studio and makerspace and robotic labs

We look forward to opening these transformed spaces for excellent learning experiences in Fall 2023.

For the 2022-2023 school year, the A building will be under renovation, which means we're making some changes to our campus, including location of eighth grade classrooms which may require some classrooms to move mid-year, to accommodate construction.

We have also temporarily relocated our front office to the E-building, which is located on the south end of campus.  Due to limited office space in the E-building, we will be adjusting our front office procedures during this temporary relocation.  We will share those details with our students and parents during schedule & device pick-up on July 14 for 8th grade and July 15th for 9th grade and during open house on July 25.  We appreciate your patience and your understanding as we build for excellence at Armstrong Jr High School.

We look forward to seeing you on July 14 or 15 for schedule pick-up and device distribution and on July 25 for Open House.
