Dear SHS Class of 2020,

Your graduation from Starkville High School is near.

After speaking to several of your classmates on Friday, we have decided to video graduation.  Each senior and up to four members of his/her family will be allowed into the Greensboro Auditorium to hear his/her name called and walk across the stage to receive his/her diploma for an individual graduation ceremony that will be edited into a full graduation film.

The videotaping of graduation is scheduled for May 11 – 13 from 9:00 am until 5:30 pm each day.  We will follow the traditional order of graduates with Valedictorian and Salutatorian leading your class followed by AP Scholars and alphabetical order of graduates.  The stage will be decorated as it normally is for graduation, and the programs will also be printed.  Coach Kristie Williams will announce your name and your honors.  Mr. McDonnall, Dr. Hogan and Dr. Peasant will be on stage to award your diploma to you.

Graduation speeches from your Valedictorian, Salutatorian and other class representatives will be recording on Thursday, May 14, at the Greensboro Auditorium between 9 and 11:30 am.

Broadcast Media Group will be videotaping this presentation of diplomas and graduation ceremony.  Broadcast Media Group will edit the record to air as a traditional graduation on May 22 at 6 pm.  The District will host this graduation event as a Facebook premier.  The video will also be available on our YouTube channel after the premier.  We are currently exploring on an option for you to purchase a CD of the recording if you would like.  We are also working to schedule a photographer to be present to take your photo for this momentous occasion.

Please pick up your cap and gown from Herff-Jones on Wednesday, April 29, between 11 am and 2 pm at SHS in the back parking lot.  The fee is $53 for your cap and gown.  If you have not already paid this fee, you will need to do so before you can pick up your cap and gown.

SHS is also hosting a drive-thru Senior Signing Day celebration on Friday, May 8, from 12 until 2.  Seniors will pick up their stoles and honor chords at this time for graduation.

We will be sharing more details with you within the next week as final details and logistics are confirmed for graduation and Senior Signing Day.  For graduation, you will receive a designated day/time to come to the Greensboro Center.  We will be following all social distancing guidelines and safe practices during the videotaping of graduation and senior signing day.  Please adhere to these when you arrive at SHS and/or Greensboro Center.

We will work around AP tests that are scheduled in the evening on May 11-13 for the videotaping of graduation.  We want you to be able to enjoy this time and celebrate this milestone with your family and prepare for your AP exam.

We are incredibly proud of you, and we admire the way your class has embraced this difficult time as part of your historical graduation year.  We will never forget this time together!

Best,

Your Jacket Family
