ARTS IN ELEMENTARY
For Yellow Jacket students, visual and performing arts are an integral part of the school day beginning in kindergarten. Students attend both Art and Music class weekly through 5th grade and explore a variety of artistic styles, media, music genres and instruments, giving even our youngest Jackets the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop a passion for creating and performing. School performances and art displays are a tradition at each elementary school throughout the year, allowing students to gain experience on stage or show off their creative skills.
In addition, elementary students have numerous opportunities to attend high quality music and theater performances during the school year that expose them to elements of the performing arts from orchestra to puppetry to plays. Through the Starkville-MSU Symphony Programs for Children, all preK through 5th grade students attend a Symphony Orchestra performance each year. Mississippi State University Theatre also hosts students for collegiate productions and has even visited school campuses to offer students smaller-scale stage experiences.
The district's rich elementary fine arts program lays the groundwork for students to discover their passion for the arts. A multitude of hands-on opportunities to explore, experiment and create in the visual and performing arts during early grades builds confidence, broadens experiences and encourages our Jackets to express their unique creativity.
