Introduction:
The safeSPACE School Climate Transformation Grant was written to serve the students at both The Partnership School and Armstrong Junior High School within the Starkville Oktibbeha County Consolidated School District in Starkville, MS.
Overview:
One key focus of the grant is to increase students access to adequate mental health services. Evidence-based clinical mental health services will be provided directly to students who are identified in need of support. The service provider will allow a set number of hours each week to provide technical assistance and direct clinical intervention for students and faculty in Armstrong JH and The Partnership School. Clinical services will include technical assistance to teachers and staff to develop appropriate school-wide and classroom interventions and programs, student assessments, and, as needed small group and individual therapy for prevention and for students in need of Tier 3 interventions. Clinical services may include therapy to address aggression and/or chronic absenteeism, drug and alcohol treatment and prevention, Applied Behavioral Analysis, and/or identification and prevention of suicidality, among other services. Appropriate faculty with relevant expertise will be present to consult on the design and implementation of clinical.
