At Discovery Center, we strive to provide meaningful learning opportunities to support families and enhance the connection between home, school and community. On this page, you'll find our current list of on-going classes and support groups as well as our calendar of upcoming workshops.

FREE CHILDCARE

Our Project PEACE Playpen offers free childcare for children ages 0 to 5 available to parents while they are participating in many of our workshops and classes. A copy of each child's birth certificate and immunization record is required to participate in Playpen.

NOVEMBER 8

RAMP ERA INFO SESSION & APPLICATION ASSISTANCE

Join us Monday, November 8 for an Info Session about how to apply for RAMP ERA funding. Project PEACE will have RAMP ERA Agents on-sight 11am - 3pm to answer questions and help individuals complete RAMP applications.

Funding for RAMP (Rental Assistance for Mississippians Program) can be used for rental assistance, utilities, and home energy costs. To learn more about eligibility and what documentation to bring, visit www.ms-ramp.com

JOB SKILLS WORKSHOP

Need some great pointers on how to get a job and keep a job? Don't miss out on our Job Skills workshop on November 12th from 10 AM-11:30 AM. We'll cover topics such as applications, interviews, job attire, working with employers and staff, and finding purpose in your work! Come join us for great discussion and hands-on activities! Door prizes will be given!

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT CPR CLASS
5:30pm - 8:30pm

Discovery Center at Emerson School
1504 Louisville Street - Starkville, MS

The Discovery Center and OSERVS are offering a CPR Basic Life Support Certification class for healthcare professionals on Tuesday, November 16th from 5:30 PM-8:30 PM. The class will be held at The Discovery Center in our library. Registration is required and participants must bring $35 in cash.

Free childcare during the class is provided. (Copy of child's birth certificate and shot records are required.)

Interested in a career change? You may qualify for tuition assistance from Project PEACE to take a workforce class at East Mississippi Community College! An EMCC representative will visit Discovery Center to answer questions and provide information about available workforce classes and admission.

ON-GOING CLASSES

Whether it's a phone call, a virtual meeting, or a face-to-face class or support group, the Discovery Center offers a variety of opportunities to connect and learn on a weekly or monthly basis. Many of our classes and workshops offer incentives for participation, and you'll always find a listening ear and relevant resources. We hope you'll join us in one of these current on-going class offerings.

Positive Parenting Zoom Class

Our Positive Parenting Zoom class meets virtually every Monday and offers support and resources for parents. Members who attend TWO CLASSES are eligible to receive a free pack of diapers, wipes and baby food. Those who complete six classes will receive a parenting certificate for finishing the program.

Grand Families Support Group

GRANDFAMILIES SUPPORT GROUP OF STARKVILLE

The Community Parenting Support Group is sponsored by the Starkville Advocay and Action Group and meets every 2nd and 4th Saturday at Peter's Rock Church in Starkville. Parents and caregivers support and engage with one another around important parenting topics as we learn and grow together.
