Building for Excellence at SHS; Parent Letter from Dr. Spann

Dear Starkville High School Families,

We are excited to welcome you and your family to a new school year of excellence at Starkville High School, where we will celebrate learning!

As you plan to pick up your child’s school-issued device on July 18 and join us for Open House on July 25, I want to share some exciting news with you.

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District has begun a capital improvement campaign, Building for Excellence, that centers on establishing dynamic physical learning environments where students want to pursue their passion, define their purpose and achieve their potential.

At Starkville High School, Building for Excellence means a new HVAC system, new lighting, new ceilings, new paint, and new doors. We are preparing the building, so our students can feel encouraged and motivated to do their best as we celebrate learning.

Proposed improvements include:

  • New HVAC system with air filtration
  • New LED lights throughout the building
  • New acoustical ceilings
  • New exterior doors
  • New production studio and makerspace

We look forward to opening these updated spaces for excellent learning experiences in Fall 2023.

For the 2022-2023 school year, we appreciate your patience and your understanding as we build for excellence at Starkville High School.  If you need to visit Starkville High School before school begins, please be aware of any designated construction area and please pay attention to signage that may redirect you during this time.

We look forward to seeing you on July 18 for device distribution. Schedules will also be available for viewing in PowerSchool on July 18.  Open House will be held on July 25.

For Seniors
Seniors and their parents who would like to make a schedule change request must make an appointment with their counselor between July 18-22 via Sign-Up Genius.  All appointments must be made using the Sign-Up Genius link:
